2003 Boys Basketball
State Runner-Up

As the Rangers headed into postseason play, they found themselves ranked #8 in Class 2A for boys basketball. With a regular season record of 17-4, the team oozed confidence heading into sectional. Matched up with South Spencer, an annual opponent, the teams were familiar with each other. However, the Rangers proved to be ready for the challenge.

Through sectionals, the team won each of the games by a considerable margin. The Rangers were excelling on both ends of the court. This lead to the team gaining a significant amount of momentum heading into regionals. Matched up against a highly respected opponent, Brownstown Central, the team would once again be tested with yet another difficult obstacle.

At regionals, the team earned a narrow victory over Brownstown Central. They later handled Evansville Mater Dei with relative ease. With two more games in the books, the mighty Forest Park Rangers were officially a member the tournament's final four squads. One more win and the team would find themselves competing on the highest stage in Indiana basketball for the ultimate prize.

The Forest Park Rangers handled Eastern Hancock fairly well as their margin of victory was 8. The team reached the final game for boys basketball in Class 2A. Their opponent was set to be Lewis Cass. Cass had dominated opposing teams, going undefeated en route to the championship game. Sadly, the Kings continued their dominance against the Rangers at Conseco. Forest Park lost every major statistical category except for bench scoring. The lead only changed one time in the match with two ties occuring. Despite an outcome opposite of Rangers fans' hopes, this team set a standard for Forest Park athletics going forward. They were the second team in school history to reach the state finals and the first of their sport to do so. Their magical run also inspired future teams to follow similar paths. As of 2018, 3 more boys basketball teams had made the same journey to Indianapolis. This team certainly holds a special place in Forest Park sports history.
